Featured on RTÉ News: Leaving Cert Maths Study Tips

Overview

In May 2026, I was invited by RTÉ News to share last-minute Leaving Cert Maths study advice with students across Ireland ahead of the Leaving Certificate examinations.

Why RTÉ Asked Me To Contribute

I was contacted by RTÉ to do a piece on the upcoming Leaving Cert maths exam because we have over 100,000 followers on TikTok. The word got out, and they just spotted me and asked me to do a piece.

My Key Leaving Cert Maths Study Tips

So one of the key things to talk about in an article is a few handy practical tips. First tip: to start with an easy question in Section A. Don’t scan the paper; start straight away, because it avoids you panicking and getting overwhelmed.

The next tip I gave to my students was to focus on the method. The method gets your marks in maths. It’s not about the final answer; it’s about the method, and to not get too bogged down if you get stuck on a question.

And finally, one of the last steps I gave to students was, just on the morning of their exam, to look at all the formulas that are not in their log tables. That’s a great thing to look at before they walk into their exam. Keeps it fresh in their brain.

The Message I Wanted Students To Hear

I guess, really, at this stage, confidence and belief are half the battle during a Leaving Cert maths exam. There will be challenges; there will be questions to get stuck on. What good students do is they don’t get bogged down; they keep moving; they garner marks when they are available and they get through the exam.
